SthaviraAngiraja resides on the great snow mountain of Kailasha in the land of Tibet along with a retinue of 1300 Arhats. He holds a tail wisk and an incense bowl in his hands.He was born to the householder Subhadra in the Indian city of Rajgriha. Once, the Buddha arrived at this house while he was on his alms round. Subhadra’s wife was pregnant at that time and he enquired with the Buddha if the child would be a boy or a girl. The Buddha prophesied that a boy will be born and he will become a Arhat if he gets ordained.Some naked ascetics deceived Subhadra and killed her by rubbing her belly. The naked ascetics then hid the corpse in the cremation grounds and claimed that Subhadra’s wife is dead. They blamed the Buddha. The Buddha proceeded to the cremation ground along with his disciples. On seeing the Buddha approaching the cremation ground, the naked ascetics tried to cremate the corpse. However, the belly and the parts around it did not burn and a gorgeous baby emerged from the belly. The baby was named Baby-emerged-from-fire. When he grew up, he accumulated a lot of wealth as a householder. He took refuge in a non-Buddhist tradition. At the age of 27 he received his Pravraja (Monastic Ordination) from the Buddha and later became an Arhat. If one makes supplications to this Sthavira, one is blessed with the company of spiritual friends; one’s wealth prospers and receives the blessings that one may receive from venerating and making offerings to the Three Jewels.
